If you feel God is calling you to join us in MMM, the posters above will tell you about the steps involved in becoming a Medical Missionary of Mary. Using the links below, you can also read more from our experienced MMM Vocation Directors and see our answers to the many questions young women ask.
The invitation to become a Medical Missionary of Mary comes from God. Our Constitutions say "You are called to an extraordinary adventure..."
Our mission is an adventure in faith that can take us to some of the most remote places on earth. Once there, we try to show God's love for people through the work of healing, as Jesus did when on earth. At the core of our charism of healing is a particular concern for the health of mothers and children.
Meet this year's Golden Jubilarians! After fifty years they all say they have no regrets!
Many talents needed!
Our work may take place in hospitals, health centres or with parish health teams among the local people. As well as Sisters who have qualifications in health-related professions, the mission of MMM also needs Sisters qualified in theology, business administration, IT, etc. In fact, there are no talents that cannot be put to good use in the Medical Missionaries of Mary.
Spirituality Based on the ancient tradition of Saint Benedict, we are very active in the world, where we try to be contemplatives at heart. The motto of MMM is 'Rooted and Founded in Love' (Ephesians 3:17).
Mission Statement As Medical Missionaries of Mary, in a world deeply and violently divided, we are women on fire with the healing love of God. Engaging our own pain and vulnerability, we go to peoples of different cultures, where human needs are greatest. Our belief in the inter-relatedness of God's creation urges us to embrace holistic healing and to work for reconciliation, justice and peace.
Where we are MMMs can be found in Angola, Benin, Brazil, England, Honduras, Ireland, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and USA. We will soon begin a mission in South Sudan. At present there are about 400 MMM Sisters from 20 different nationalities.
