Sr. M. Zelie Walshe
Nationality: Irish Congregational Register No: 202 D.O.B.: 21.12.1891 First Profession: 08.09.1951 Died: 11.07.1963 Aged: 72 years
At the age of 57 and widowed, few of us would think of giving the rest of our life to missionary activity, especially if we had a family of eight sons, daughters and grandchildren. But, Mrs. Ellen Walshe, with an address at that time of Kinlough, Co. Leitrim, came willingly to MMM on May 4th, 1948, entering in Rosemount. She had been a widow for five years before entering. Was it, perhaps, the influence and prayers of her son and great friend of MMM Fr. Berchmans at the Cistercian Monastery in Collon?
With all this life experience behind her, needless to say, she had a valuable contribution to make to her new family in MMM, especially in the garden and helping "Peg" (the "children's corner" page in the MMM Magazine)- and in Rosemount, Killybegs and Clonmel.
Sr. Zelie died and is buried in Drogheda.
