Our world  'Let the whole world be taken up in the prayer of your heart'. (MMM Constitutions) Today, news travels faster than ever! No previous generation has been able to know so much, so quickly, about what is happening in the world. Some spiritual writers suggest listening to the news headlines before we go apart to pray. Our prayer, as well as being a personal thing, is a social and political event. Our encounter with God in prayer prompts us, gently, to look at our own attitudes to our life, and our relationships. Then, if we stay with the questions that raises for us, it prompts and challenges us to look at our world: May Your Kingdom Come ... The 'Kingdom' of which Christ speaks is understood by theologians today to be, first of all, a world community of individuals and nations living in a peaceful, generous, just and loving relationship with one another. How can our personal prayer make any difference with such a big and daunting agenda? The old slogan Think globally, Act locally, can help us. Some people find themselves called to 'act globally' as well as locally. In this way, we build our heaven while we are working for a better world here on earth. We were not born for one corner. The whole world is our native land.
